Founded by Rick Armstrong on 23 August 1993, the Armstrong Motor Group began its first operation in Tuam Street, Christchurch, with 33 vehicles from Japan. The company then expanded its operations into wholesaling and importing to other dealers around New Zealand. Initially set up by Rick Armstrong, Cameron Moore was later bought in as a business partner, and together they built an extremely successful business, selling well over 100 vehicles per month. Over the years following, a number of dealerships operated very successfully, at a time when imported vehicles were in demand. In 2000, Rick realised that although proving very successful, this was a short-term business proposition, and made the decision to focus on acquiring franchise dealerships with more long-term market sustainability. He also believed it was clear that this was where the market was heading. |
